Appalachia

The Appalachian region is likely one of the most misunderstood cultures in America. Although, it is arguably the backbone of the country’s economics and is a hub of deeply connected identity and community. The coal and rail industries destroyed the land and the people who inhabited it.

In photographs, I aim to rediscover the places, things and history of this lush region. The forgotten mines, the crumbling towns,  the reclaimed furnaces and hidden treasures of this region have fascinated me for years, not just because of the history but the way that nature has taken back what was removed from her.
